At only 39 pounds, it is one of the lightest fishing kayaks on the market which also makes it perfect for storing in apartments or dorm rooms where you may have to carry the kayak up a flight of stairs. In addition, it is an excellent choice for paddlers with slight or petite statures because its lightweight makes it easy to lift onto and off of a vehicle roof.

Also, because it’s a sit-inside design instead of a sit-on-top design, it provides you with a feeling of being protected from the Sun, spray, and the inevitable paddle drip; unlike a sit-on-top design where you feel completely exposed to the vagaries of the elements.

Plus, the molded plastic seat is ergonomically designed and padded for additional comfort and adjustable foot braces enable it to accommodate paddlers with varying inseam lengths. In addition, I like the large, non-confining cockpit opening combined with the flat area in the bilge forward of the seat which enables you to stand up in the kayak while fishing.

For outfitting, the kayak includes a deck mounted spin/cast rod holder mounted at the apex of the cockpit rim and two flush mounted rod holders located on either side aft of the cockpit so that your rods will be handy when you need them.

Also, a watertight hold in the stern accessible via a hatch cover provides a place for dry storage of bulky items and also serves a built-in flotation in the event of a capsize. So, although the outfitting may be a bit Spartan on this kayak, neither does it lack any of the essential features and thus, with an MSRP of about $600.00, it is an excellent choice for novice or intermediate paddlers who are looking for an inexpensive, compact, lightweight fishing kayak.

Since I require both a longer length and more sophisticated outfitting from my fishing kayak, my answer to this question is “no”, I would not buy this kayak.

However, for those of you on a budget and/or those who have need to store their kayak in a small space such as a dorm room or apartment, I have to admit that this kayak is an excellent choice. Not only does the sit-inside design provide greater protection from the elements than a sit-on-top design, the seat is both comfortable and the adjustable foot braces keep the weight down while also making the kayak accessible to different sized anglers.

Last, due to its size, this kayak is best reserved for fishing on ponds, small lakes, and mild streams and rivers.
