Our Conclusion
Make a statement this winter in the great-looking Heavenly Long Hooded Jacket from Columbia. This jacket hits about mid-thigh and has many comfortable touches that keep you warm and cozy. However, the Omni-Heat lining and synthetic insulation are slightly thin, so this is a better choice for a mild winter climate.
There are just enough features to keep you comfortable, but not too many to weigh you down. It is lightweight without sacrificing durability. I’m sure you are already captivated by the style, but continue reading to find out if the Heavenly is a good fit for you.

Key Features
Key Features
Comfort
Besides the warmth, you’ll hardly notice you are wearing this outdoor jacket. On average, it weighs 1.6 pounds. The smallest size weighs 21.8 ounces and the largest weighs 28.9 ounces.
There are cuffs attached to the sleeves that cover the back of your hand and palm. They stay in place thanks to the thumbhole. The hood is also finished with a soft material that feels great against your head.
One less-comfortable feature is the interior fabric. The shiny Omni-Heat liner has an almost plasticky feeling against the skin. However, because you will be wearing this in the winter, you will likely have a long sleeve shirt underneath and won’t even notice.
This lining also affects the breathability of the jacket. If you plan to do any activities, aside from casually walking, you are likely to sweat.
Fit
This jacket is available in sizes XS to XXL- in a standard or plus size. Honestly, it runs slightly small. If you order up a size, it will not hug your body, but it will still maintain its shape. To keep your legs and behind warm, there is a one-inch drop tail. This makes the center back length 34-inches in total.
Weather Resistance
First, let’s discuss its resistance against cold weather. The interior body and sleeves are lined with an Omni-Heat thermal reflective lining. This lining uses your own body heat and reflects it back to you. There is also synthetic down insulation sewn into the jacket. Both of these features work well together, but they are not ideal for temperatures under freezing.
Some other cold-weather features include binding at the hood and cuffs, zippered hand pockets, and a zipper that goes all the way up to your chin. One of our favorite features is the comfortable cuffs and thumbholes. Unfortunately, the hood is not adjustable or removable.
In terms of weather resistance, the shell is water-resistant. It can handle light rain or snow, but for anything more, you’ll want to find cover or a waterproof shell. One great thing about synthetic insulation though is that it dries quickly and also still keeps you warm when wet.
Features
Besides the beautiful color options and overall style of this jacket, there are not a lot of features to discuss. The Heavenly is available in 7 different colors including Olive Green, Dark Nocturnal, Black, Malbec, Plum, Chalk, and Velvet Cove. Each one is beautiful and slightly muted.
Perhaps one of the greatest features is the two-way zipper. This allows you to unzip the jacket from the bottom to give yourself a wider range of motion and avoid bunching. It might not sound important now, but trust me, it is.
There are three pockets in total. There are two zippered hand pockets and one interior security pocket.
Durability
This entire jacket is made from different types and styles of polyester. The shell is made from StormLite DP II. The interior lining is Luscious Fleece with Omni-Heat reflective lining. As mentioned before, the insulation is synthetic, and also made from polyester.
Columbia offers a limited lifetime warranty. This warranty protects the garment for the “practical life of the product” from workmanship and material defects. Each claim is treated separately and inspected by Columbia.

Comparison to Similar Outdoor Jackets
The Marmot Montreaux is a great option that provides more warmth than the Heavenly. It is insulated with 700 fill down with down defender. It is slightly longer than the Heavenly with a center back length of 39 inches. It weighs nearly double at about 2.25 pounds. Both options have an ingenious two-way zipper.
The torso and hand-warming pockets of the Montreaux are lined with fleece, which also adds wind protection. The interior drop pockets are a great place to store valuables or accessories, like gloves. The faux-fur-lined hood of this jacket provides great warmth and is also removable.
One downside is the zipper quality on some of the jackets. Costing double the price of the Heavenly, this is something Marmot needs to address.
Another impressive option is the Arc’teryx Patera Parka. However, first and foremost, we must warn you, the Patera is expensive. It is approximately five times the price of the Heavenly. It has many features and is somehow still lightweight. It weighs just under two pounds. It has a center back length of 37 inches.
The Patera has two layers of Gore-Tex which make it waterproof, snowproof, and windproof. It is insulated with 750 fill power European goose down. Arc’Teryx uses Down Composite Mapping to place the right amount of insulation in specific areas. Also, synthetic Coreloft insulation is incorporated in areas that are likely to come in contact with moisture.
One common complaint is that the jacket runs big and has no option to cinch the waist, which makes it more difficult to keep the warmth inside the jacket.

Verdict
The Heavenly jacket provides decent warmth, a comfortable fit, and is incredibly lightweight. Considering the few features it has, it is priced quite fairly. It is water-resistant and has a few great extra touches, like the cuffs and thumbholes and the two-way zipper. While a removable hood would be appreciated, we are happy that it has a hood in general.
If Columbia were to add on over-the-top features, the price would also be much higher. If you are looking for something more intense, one of the other options listed would be better. However, for a cold, snowy, yet mild winter, the Columbia Heavenly Long Hooded Jacket is a stylish choice.
